Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
Not an impossible to find game, but the demand for it is just so high. I also think the DS port news has sparked the interest in such an item.

Whoever paid that much for it is a bid stupid. Watch the prices come down when it's re-released.

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
a new record indeed. it's a mint copy. One of the best for last months.
Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
a rerelease of the game will make the older copy more popular making the sealed game more expensive. Nobody pays $2k for a copy to enjoy whats inside.

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
No one knows if this was legit or not...it was a private auction so it could be a 0 feedback deadbeat, who knows. Also, this copy was not perfect - there is a dent on the bottom.

Just an observation... I think finding a "perfect" CT is a lot tougher than some other SNES games. Why? Because the box is made out of cheaper recycled material... ie. it's a lot more flimsy. It just isn't as rigid of box. Compare with a FFIII box and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
Wow, I didn't even realize that some SNES games are made with different materials and are of different qualities...very interesting...
And not only was that 2k chrono trigger a bit dented in one area (though very minor), it also looked quite dirty in some pics...not worth anywhere near 2K.

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
I can't say for sure it's reflective across the entire spectrum, but the CT and FFIII boxes that I have show this. Both boxes are from the exact games that I bought brand new back in the day and have been stored side by side, equally as good in a cabinet ever since. On the FFIII box, the raw cardboard edges look a lot brighter than the CT. Also, just looking at the front side, the FFIII is smoother than the CT, which looks slightly bumpy. Overall, the FFIII is just a better quality, more sturdy box than the CT.

QFT! I mentioned this awhile back to someone (I think it was you MCJD) that Chrono is one of the ones that has a "shitty" box. Dracula X is another one. I won that case fresh Dracula X on ebay and it too has these 2 tiny dents on the box that are because it is a thin quality crappy box.

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
Well, the only difference I've noticed is that, on some games (like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Evermore - both made in Mexico, though Evermore also had a Made in Japan version), it depends on where they were made...made in Japan games seam to have better-quality boxes. I noticed that on sealed copies of Chrono Trigger and Secret of Evermore...if you look very closely near where you'd open the game and pull the materials out (right side of the box when looking at the front cover), the box has tiny "creases" or "white lines" that make it look as if the game were previously opened. Secret of Mana, FF2, and FF3 (at least copies that I've seen) do not have this, and from wht I remember, they were all Made iin Japan..

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
Im not too shocked here. CT has sold for 2K plus several times before.
If sealed collecting takes off then I can see several SNES RPGs in the thousands. Maybe even next year!
And yes, there are some SNES boxes that are made of recycled materials but nothing like N64 games that when you open the case they look like shit (Forsaken, South Park etc.).

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
Maybe I'm not in the right thread, but talking about prices... Look here for a really cheap one. But maybe it was opened. Can you see it? He has also FFII and FFIII, but I can't see if they were opened.
Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
Looks opened. Edges are very used. Cannot understand a thing there.
Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
yeah, that CT definitely appears opened...too bad I can't understand a word of German

Wow...what looks like basically a perfect Chrono Trigger only sold for $1400 ish. You can NOT get a more high profile game, especially with the DS re-release. And 3500 people saw the auction.
This just confirms what I already know...the sealed game market is down, without a doubt in my mind. We may be entering into a "buyer's market"

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
Well it got a little higher then I expected actually given the blurry pictures. But your right, 3500 hits is a LOT and impossible to miss the game if you were looking for it. The seller got some very good prices on his other games (R-Type III, TMNT II) and some flops as well (TMNT IV).

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
I won the R-Type III. he actually lost money on it since he outbid me the first time around (I think he won it a few months ago for $360 or so). And the TMNT II was barely higher than he won it from me for, so overall, no, he did not do well.

Re: Chrono Trigger hits a new high?
I was offered to buy R-Type III for $125 a few weeks ago from some newsletter on ebay. I replied the seller im not interested (he mentioned R-Type not R-Type III) and to put it on ebay and sure enough it sold within a few hours. Would of bought it if he told me the correct title.

Only sold for $1400? 1400 is a dang good price to me. If you've looked on ebay recently you've seen a ton of sealed games for sale. Iv been buying everything I can see. People know they are worth alot they are tight for cash so they take them out of their attics and basements to get some quick cash. Once this financial crisis is over there wont be a chrono trigger in sight. Get em while you can
