were eBay fees always this high?
I just realized that eBay fees are on average 8% of the finishing price! They take a huge chunk of the profits for themselves.......
So far I've been listing stuff w/ free shipping to get some more attention to the listings, but that is greatly to my disadvantage!
Was is always like this? I don't remember it being this high before....

Re: were eBay fees always this high?
nope them greedy bast*rds have now raised the final value fee from 7.5% to 9.9% i think?? also apparently they are bringing in a new rule where you must offer free p+p for dvd's and you can only charge up to a certain amount on postage for any listings in the 'PC and Video Games' category. ebay is digging itself an early grave imho as this will piss alot of sellers of im sure, and as a result are bound to see a fair few accounts start to close

Re: were eBay fees always this high?
yes ebay has been going downhill for allmost 1 year now. If they keep up at this rate then they will be screwed in a few years. The situation is getting out of control on ebay.com certainly.
Also this "best match" is the sole reason for these fixed price listings with ridiculous prices because sellers are scared to loose money with auction listings. Try to search for sealed games using "best match" and you get some damn sealed third party controllers over Chrono Triggers. doh

Re: were eBay fees always this high?
but are there any reasonable alternatives???? I feel like if I list at some no-name auction site I will just lose the money that was going to eBay anyways out of no1 seeing the games and bidding on them.

i have never tried anywhere else solely for the reason that ebay is by far the most popular which means tons more people will view your listing which increases the chance of you selling.
i think ebay is too big for most other auction sites to compete with which is a shame as they're damn greedy and dont deserve the business. however especially selling something like sealed games which only a certain small majority are interested in, i think trying your luck on a different site would be a bit of a waste of time. if there is a similar alternative though i would also like to know

Re: were eBay fees always this high?
I took a look at other video game auction sites and they just seem dead and unapealing to me. Plus everyone starts the auctions at ebay prices anyway. Id rather give a % to ebay then loose money at some other site.

what is this w/ shipping now? You are only allowed to charge a maximum of 4.00$ for S/H of video games? What kind of BS is this? How can they expect us to ship w/ this price? Terrible....

Not to mention that eBay's worthless flash interface will sometimes freeze in the middle of listing creation, which results in everything you typed in being deleted. I hate monopolies for this reason.

Tell me about it. Everything I sell is always oversized. They are going f'n senile, and or catering just to mass overstock sellers.
Re: were eBay fees always this high?
Yup, they are going to lose business. I have a few more batches of stuff to sell and then I'm likely done with ebay. The way to get around this is just set higher starting prices/reserve prices. Just make up the shipping in the price.

Re: were eBay fees always this high?
yea but that's exactly what eBay wants because then they can take a bigger cut of your profits.
I have so many eBay fees it feels like 25-50% rather than 8%.
